General Information

Senior and Special Needs Dogs

We have been rescuing senior and special needs Dachshunds for twenty years - for a

combined four decades of experiencee. While our knowledge of the care of these

babies is vast, anyone that cares for a senior or special needs dog understands the

fragile state that their health can take. While we are devoted to taking excellent care of

all of our boarded babies, we want to insure that our customers are aware that

sometimes things happen with these babies that are nothing short of an act of God.

Isolation Rooms

We have four isolation rooms available in our kennel. We will use these rooms for:

  • Any dog displaying symptoms of illness.
  • Any dog displaying extreme anxiety.
  • Any dog that injures itself in any way under our care.
  • Any dog that displays signs of serious or contagious illness.
  •  Senior or special needs dogs that would benefit from more secluded environment.

Multiple Dogs In One Run

We will gladly board up to 3 small dogs or 2 large dogs from one owner in a run together. The stipulation to that is the dogs must be able to eat while together in the run. We cannot separate dogs from one run for feeding times.

Our kennel is equipped with ten 4'x6' runs and twelve 4'x8' runs. We will make the determination on run size when owners book their reservations. This will ensure we are providing the best accommodations for all pets in our care.

Dog Restrictions

We are not able to accomodate:

  • Puppies younger than 4 months old.
  • Nursing mothers and their litters.
  • Any dog that displays any sign of serious or contagious illness.
  • Any dog that displays aggression toward our employees or other dogs in our facility.
  • Any dog with open wounds.

Bordetella

Bordetella bronchiseptica is a bacterium commonly associated with respiratory disease in dogs. It is one of the more common bacterial causes of canine infectious tracheobronchitis, which is also sometimes called kennel cough. Bordetella bronchiseptica is one of several viral and bacterial agents responsible for kennel cough syndrome. Bordetella is highly contagious, easily transmitted through the air or direct contact, and resistant to destruction in the environment.

Bordetella vaccines are required every 6 months. Your pet must have a current vaccination for Bordetella and proof must be provided upon drop off of you dog.

These vaccinations are NOT 100% fool-proof. While we take special care to sanitize our facilities, Bordetella can be transmitted thru the air. It would be impossible to completely prevent any cases of Bordetella in a kennel environment. Please understand that if your dog shows any symptoms of Bordetella while in our care we will place them in our isolation room and take every step possible to care for them.  We will contact owner and seek veterinary care for any dog that requires it.

The owners must agree that Gardendale Country Kennels and it's employees will be held harmless if their pet contracts kennel cough in our facility.
